There are two standard types for hospital beds: standard size and bariatric size hospital beds. The standard size has 3 different types: Manual, Semi Electric, and Full Electric. The most common is the Semi-Electric hospital bed. All options are electric except the whole bed (up & down option), which is manual. All hospital beds have an option of full rails or half rails and a variety of mattresses to choose from. The most common mattress is the innerspring mattress. Bariatric hospital beds are for patients who are over 400 hundred pounds, and work for anyone up to one thousand pounds. A bariatric bed will be somewhat larger than a regular sized hospital bed, although the difference is only slight.

All hospital beds have the option of a Trapeze Bar.

Hospital-style beds improve the quality of life for both disabled and bed-bound patients. Manual, Semi-electric and Full-Electric hospital beds all offer height adjustment, as well as the ability to raise the head of the bed, the foot of the bed, or both at an angle.
