You will need to purchase a sling to use with your patient lifter, no matter which type of lifter you use. Manual patient lifters are the most economical, and they are functional and efficient in helping to move patients. Hydraulic patient lifters are less tiring, and although the cost is slightly more than a manual patient lifer, you may like the added convenience of having the hydraulic patient lifter do some extra work for you. The Invacare Careguard patient lift is also a patient lift designed to lift up to 450 pounds. The Careguard patient lift features a swivel bar that has been padded for extra comfort. The Careguard patient lift is also easy to disassemble and take along with you on trips or moves. Patient lifters work by using leverage, a simple physics law that allows you to lift weight without adding extra strain on your muscles. By using a lifter, you can lift up to 200 pounds with only 25 pounds of lifting effort.

Bedside commodes are often used for patients who have limited mobility. There are several types of medical commodes, although most share the trait of being portable and convenient to use for patients and their caregivers. The Invacare bariatric commode supports up to 650 pounds, and is portable and easy to care for. The commode is wide enough for the use of a commode sling, and has a sturdy metal frame. The Invacare bariatric commode is a good choice for patients who need assistance in moving. Other Invacare commodes offer a drop arm feature that allows for easy transfer from a commode sling to the Invacare commode. Commode slings are available in several varieties, including slings with a cut away feature for easy bathing and commode use. Polyester commode slings are a good choice, since they are very durable and easy to care for.
